About the course

An allergy is a reaction of the immune system to a normally harmless element. The immune system overreacts to something and fights it off, treating it as a harmful invader. This can lead to annoying symptoms, or to a life-threatening  event requiring emergency medical assistance.  Allergies affect millions of Canadians. 1-in-2 Canadian households are impacted by a food allergy. According to the Canadian Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology Foundation, one in every four or five Canadians (20 to 25% of the population) has allergic rhinitis (also referred to as “hay fever”).  This program looks at the different types of allergies, symptoms, and the treatments available.
